Dr. Sean Stringer is a local Chiropractic doctor.  Doc, please tell us a bit about what you do.

I am committed to providing each patient with an exceptional elite level of care and personalized attention.  So much so, that rather than you coming to my office, I come to you, where you need me, at your home, office, etc.

“Here the secret truth on why I am doing this instead of a conventional office practice like I use to do.  I was in a car accident in June 2008…hit by a 16 year-old drunk driver.  I was messed up!  This accident left me with injuries that will affect me for the rest of my life.  This car accident injured me to the point that I was going 3-5 times per week to doctors, surgeons, and physical therapists appointments.  It became almost a full time job just going to appointments!  It was tiresome and burdening to put it nicely."

"In April 2009, after one of my appointments…the idea came to me on how much easier it would have been on me if the doctors and therapists would have come to me…on my time and at my convenience.  Then I remembered back to the stories my parents and grandparents shared about the doctor coming to the farm house they had in Canton, Ohio.  I remembered the black and white movies and TV shows that showed the country "Doc" going to the house when the patient was sick or injured…then it hit me…Why not start a practice like this up again?  Take the doc back to the people…so here I am…that kooky, funny, caring doctor…who comes to YOU!”

Your visit with Doc Stringer will be high quality, efficient, and done in a timely manner…without the hassles you will get at other offices! SATISFACTION GUARANTEED!!!

“I want things to be as easy and simple for you as possible.  I am even so confident of your care that if you aren’t completely satisfied that I gave you high quality treatment…your visit is FREE!”

"I know you are busy and like the old saying goes...'Time is money.'  But it's much more than that...it's filled with the special moments with your family and friends.  After my wife passed in April 2007...I would have done anything to get back just 5 minutes of time with her.  I hope that you never have to lose a loved one and understand how precious time is in our short lives.  Why should you have to fight traffic to go to the doctor...only to sit and wait more in the waiting room...and then again in the treatmnent room...then fight traffic to get home.  Your time and health are two of your most precious things...You need to savor them both. And that's why I am the chiropractor that comes to you...to your home or your work."

"I am proud to say after 9 years of practice that I have many satisfied patients.  Watch their testimonials. They are police officers, teachers, stay at home mothers, missionaries, etc...REAL people like you."

"I am dedicated to providing the highest level of care to you and if I can't help you I will point you in the right direction to a team of doctors that I have found to be the best of the best.  People I have or would see myself or send my family too! Each doctor is compassionate and understanding doctors take pride in paying close attention to each patient's needs."

"I offer extended hours and accept same-day appointments (based on availability)."

Besides chiropractic care, I provide a mobile fall prevention and wellness program.  The basis for the program is a comprehensive screening, evaluation and treatment program relating to vestibular balance disorders.

This exclusive program offers four distinct segments:

1. An educational program to help prevent falls. Seniors and their loved ones can be offered information to be more aware of how to prevent or reduce the risk of falls within their environment.

2. Evaluate patients to determine those at higher risk of falling. My Better Balance Evaluator equipment tracks the patient's sway with their eyes open and eyes closed. The data is collected and compared to other data of patients within the same age and weight brackets.

3. Diagnose patients with vestibular disorders with further tests and questionnaires. The advanced diagnostic equipment can isolate a vestibular system disorder or central nervous system disorder.

4. Effectively treat patients with vestibular disorders, including referring them to comprehensive vestibular rehab programs with protocols that allow the patient to improve their quality of life and reduce their risk of falling. Patients with central nervous system or other problems are referred to the appropriate specialist such as neurologists and ENT's.

What is the most important thing that you want people in Venice to know about your business?

I am totally mobile…I come to you…your home or work…no need to fight traffic, wait a long time to see the doctor, and get frustrated from the hassles that it brings.  I remove the hassles by coming to you!

Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your life in our community?

I was born in Sarasota and raised in Venice.  The only time I moved away was for college and chiropractic school. I hold a Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Northwestern College of Chiropractic.  I also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of South Florida, where I graduated with a major in Interdisciplinary Natural Sciences with an Emphasis in Chemistry.

After completing my studies at NWCC, I moved back to the Sarasota area where I had actively practiced until September 2007.  I have owned and operated several multidisciplinary clinics during my career.

I have completed over 1200 post doctorate hours in human biomechanics, sports medicine and chiropractic sports medicine, rehabilitation, spinal decompression, low level laser therapy, and soft tissue injuries.  My clinical focus is in low level laser therapy, fall prevention and wellness programs, rehabilitation, sports injuries and soft tissue injuries.  I was a clinical instructor for the Graston Technique and on low level laser therapy.

I am the former medical director the Women's Professional Football League, Women's American Football League, and Mid-American Semi-Pro Men's Football League.  I also served on the medical teams for the Ironman Triathlon World Championship, International Softball Federation, World Olympian Association, and AVP Pro Beach Volleyball Tournament.  I have contributed and consulted to several health publications.

Last, in your view why should people in Venice support not just yours, but any locally owned businesses first?

Local businesses are the heart of our community.  Without a heart…a person will die…without local businesses…a community dies.

Esther Bird is a local professional life and business coach.  Esther, please tell us a bit about your business?

I am a certified life and career coach and my company is Bright Future Coaching, LLC.  After spending  about 28 years in corporate America, I made the decision to make a major change.  I found the stress from my corporate job was affecting my health and I knew I needed pay attention and change things. I decided I wanted to be a coach, started my owner business and put my focus on helping others.  I love my job and it makes me feel fulfilled, unlike any other position I have ever held.

I received my coaching training from The Life Purpose Institute in San Diego, California and began my business in April 2008. As a life coach, my focus is on helping women who are challenged by life's difficulties improve the quality of their lives.  As a career coach, my focus in on helping small business owners become more successful and profitable.  Both of these services utilize my strengths and provide me with a great deal of personal satisfaction.

What is the most important thing that you want people in Venice to know about your business?

The one thing I would like people to know about me is that I take my role as a coach very seriously.  I work extremely hard for each client and do everything I can to help them meet their goals and be successful.  I possess a wealth of knowledge and strong work ethics.

Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your life in our community?

I moved to Florida in 1995 and purchased a home in Venice in 1996. I love living in Venice and am convinced it is the best place in the world to live.  I have been involved in many organizations during my time in Venice and try to give back to the community in a variety of ways.  I volunteer at the Women's Resource Center and teach classes there on a regular basis.  I am a member of the Business and Professional Women of Englewood and Venice and currently serve as First Vice President. I am also the First Vice President for the Florida Federation of Business and Professional Women.  In addition to these positions, I have been a member of the Board of Directors for the United Way of South Sarasota County for the past 2-1/2 years.  As a member of the Venice Chamber of Commerce, I serve on the Member Events committee and participate in many of the organization's activities.

In addition to the other activities, I also prepare and present workshops on a variety of interesting and helpful topics.  Whenever possible, I speak to groups and have about ten motivational topics I present.  A list of these topics and information about my workshops is available on my website (www.brightfuture4u2.com

Last, in your view why should people in Venice support not just yours, but any locally owned businesses first?

Certainly I would hope that the people of Venice would support me and my business as well as the businesses of others in the community.  Small business owners work extremely hard to provide quality service and products, knowing full well that this is a small community and their reputation is the most valuable asset they have. A good reputation is earned by hard work, honest business practices, and consistently providing excellent service and products.  Those are things that I strive for every day in my personal and professional life.

Calypso Graphics

Debbi Walters is a local graphic design artist.  Debbi please tell us a bit about your business.

Calypso Graphics, is a graphic design studio helping businesses and individuals create professionally  designed and printed materials at affordable prices.

With the advent of the home computer, people have turned to the bundled software to create their invitations, flyers, business cards, newsletters and the like. Often, the results are a disservice to the business by not presenting a professional image to their prospective customers.

You've heard of Virtual Assistants? Calypso Graphics wants to be your virtual Graphic Design Department! [chuckle]. With many companies streamlining their staff, the task of design and marketing materials often falls to their most computer savvy person. Not schooled in the graphic arts, they can actually cost a company in more than just money.

In this economic climate, customers lean towards a business that projects professionalism and confidence over a "homespun" production. My mission is to create quality marketing and presentation materials, giving businesses a polished identity that will set their business apart from others in their competitive market.

If they are serious about their business, if they believe their business offers something special over their competitors, I believe their presentation materials should reflect their convictions. Calypso Graphics is here to help them do that!

What is the most important thing that you want people in Venice to know about your business?

Calypso Graphics is more than an "order taker" for design projects.  By building long term relationships with my clients, I learn about their business, and then translate their vision into a unique identity which helps them stand apart from their competitors. This Energy is the fuel for my Creativity. An "order taker" simply does not offer that level of interest, or include this dimension into their Customer Service.

I specialize in small quantities and offer fast turn around. Customer Service to me, is more than making sure there is satisfaction with the end result. I go the extra mile by taking a deeper interest in my customers. The success of my studio is enhanced by the success of my customers. Networking is a bit of "lagniappe" that goes along with doing business with me!

Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your life in our community?

I moved from the Keys to the Venice area over 20 years ago, and worked in the graphics departments of local businesses. As my skills were honed, I was tapped for an Art Director position in a Sarasota based international marketing company. During my tenure, I developed strong relationships with local graphic and printing vendors that continue to this day.

Living in paradise offers some unique opportunities not afforded in other locales. I was introduced to Scuba diving by my brother, on leave from the US Coast Guard. A 15 minute experience was all I needed to "dive" into this new adventure. Taking classes from a local dive shop, I set my sights on becoming an Instructor. My goal achieved, my name appears at the bottom of 10 years worth of student C-Cards! It's a thrill to run into them on The Avenue, on a charter or at the beach!

Last, in your view why should people in Venice support not just yours, but any locally owned businesses first?

Supporting our local economy is paramount to making the Suncoast remain a vibrant community.  Patronizing local merchants and keeping our dollars here, allow our hard earned dollars to continue to circulate at the local level such as the movie theatre, ice cream store and all our other locally owned businesses. In turn, they provide employment and services for our residents. Instead of leaving our money in another county's coffers, let's actively support or local merchants.

On a professional note, I have forged strong alliances with local vendors. If I can't do business in Venice, I look to Sarasota County. If I am unsuccessful at the county level, I have sources in the state of Florida. Rarely will I utilize a vendor outside our state, and under no circumstances will I send my business outside our country. Many people do not realize that internet printing providers are actually based and headquartered outside the US (often in Canada and the Caribbean). Sometimes I hear "Oh, I can get it cheaper on the internet." I smile and say "I am sure you can, but did you know your are sending your money outside the US? How many other people have used that very same template you want to use to represent their business? Who do you call if there is an issue with your order? Do they provide personal attention, like I do?" Cheaper? Yes. Cost effective? Probably not. The old addage "You get what you pay for" cannot be more appropriately applied.

My studio's foundation is built on the 3 C's: Creativity, Customer Satisfaction and Competitive Pricing. My customers are my friends and neighbors, and come to me through word of mouth referrals. A healthy local economy keeps our corner of paradise sunny and thriving.

Bring us your ideas, we'll bring them to life!

Starting up this web site I knew I needed business cards and first looked at a couple options outside the area.  I quickly realized that I could not do a blog and web site promoting locally owned businesses and go outside of town for my business cards!

Not yet knowing any local printers, I asked around with people I know and got very strong recommendations for Steve the Printer.  All I can say is I see why.

I have never gotten such professional printing service, with such speed or such a reasonable price.  Steve Smallwood the owner and his in house graphic artist really go out of their way to treat people fairly.  Actually from my experience I’d say they treat people exceptionally.
Picture
It shows as well from how busy they are.  Even so they can get a job done, and done well.  If you have printing needs from business cards, to brochures, books, and more, give Steve a call.  I believe you will find very good service, pricing, and a finished product that will really make you look good.

The collection is extremely diverse from large paintings, to sculpture and furniture, to handcrafted jewelry, pottery, glass, and many other mediums.  There is even artwork and crafts made with sharks teeth and shells from the local beaches.

The styles are as diverse as the mediums, from traditional, to contemporary; from serious to whimsical you’ll find wonderful treasures here for people of many tastes and budgets.

"Venice West Gallery & handcrafted gifts" was created to help artists and crafters gain recognition for their talent and hard work.  Therefore it primarily showcases new and upcoming artists.

The Barber Shop

This men’s barber shop in the Venice Center Mall is an extension of Palm Hair, the ladies beauty salon next door.  John Grifin, the barber here is a very friendly gentleman from Massachusetts.  John is the type of barber you can really enjoy going too.

He not only gives you a great hair cut, he is very friendly, nice, and genuinely interested in you.  If you prefer a barber who cuts hair with a sulky, silent demeanor, that’s not John!  He’s good at not just cutting your hair but leaving you with a smile on your face and a lift in your spirit too!

The shop is in Venice Center Mall on Tampa Ave right across from Centennial Park.

No appointments needed.  Husband’s can come in here and get a cut while their wife is getting her hair done next door or shopping in one of the buildings exclusive boutiques. The atmosphere of the historic building is very nice too.

This gallery is one of several hidden treasures in the historic KMI Building on Tampa Ave.  This warm, inviting, and elegant gallery features the work of several local artists in painting, photography, and other fine art mediums.

I call it a hidden treasure because most people shop on Venice Ave. and many will one day venture across just Centennial Park to exclaim that they never knew this was here.  There is quite a bit in this historic building from a fine French restaurant, beauty salons, fashion boutiques, and more.

The O Gallery is a perfect gathering spot for the building and downtown as it not only features fine art, but fine pastries, coffee’s, teas, and wine as well.  While the Mrs. is getting her hair done or shopping for a new dress, this is a wonderful and very friendly spot for the husband to come, relax, and chat with others.

Remember, if you are shopping in downtown Venice to venture just across Centennial park and discover some of the best kept secrets in town The O Gallery on Tampa Ave in the center of the old KMI Building.  You’ll be delighted that you did.
